The nose plays a crucial role in facial aesthetics, and its size and shape can significantly impact your overall look. If you’re dissatisfied with your nasal profile, primary rhinoplasty in Scottsdale can improve the shape, size, and overall contours of your nose to improve overall facial harmony.
Elevate the Nasal Form & Function With Rhinoplasty
Primary rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure to reshape and enhance the appearance of the nose. The term “primary” refers to the patient’s first nose job, as opposed to a secondary or revision rhinoplasty. It is often sought by individuals unhappy with their nose’s natural shape or size and who desire a more harmonious facial profile. This procedure addresses cosmetic concerns and can also improve breathing function if there are any structural issues causing nasal obstruction.
During primary rhinoplasty, Dr. DeVictor carefully sculpts the nasal structures, considering factors like the bridge, tip, and nostrils. The goal is to achieve a result that is in balance with the rest of the face. Primary rhinoplasty can correct various nasal imperfections, such as humps on the bridge, wide nostrils, or a drooping tip. It is essential for individuals considering this procedure to have realistic expectations and engage in thorough consultations with their surgeon to ensure the results of their rhinoplasty in Scottsdale conforms to their goals.

Your Primary Rhinoplasty Consultation
During your consultation with Dr. DeVictor, you’ll discuss your goals and concerns regarding your nasal aesthetics and function. Dr. DeVictor will carefully examine your nose, assessing its size, shape, and any structural issues that may affect your breathing. You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions, voice any concerns, and share your desired outcome. Dr. DeVictor will explain the surgical process, including the technique that would best suit your needs. Together, you’ll develop a personalized treatment plan to achieve your aesthetic goals with a rhinoplasty in Scottsdale.
The Primary Rhinoplasty Surgery
Dr. DeVictor will begin by administering anesthesia to ensure your comfort. Depending on the extent of your rhinoplasty, Dr. DeVictor will perform either closed or open rhinoplasty. In closed rhinoplasty, all incisions are made internally, while in open rhinoplasty, a small external incision is made across the columella. Dr. DeVictor will carefully sculpt the nasal structures, addressing concerns such as nasal humps, wide nostrils, or a drooping tip.
If functional rhinoplasty is part of your procedure, Dr. DeVictor will correct any issues that affect nasal airflow, such as a deviated septum. The goal is to enhance your nasal appearance and improve overall breathing. Once the necessary modifications are made, Dr. DeVictor will close the incisions to minimize scarring. After surgery, you’ll be taken to a recovery area where you’ll be monitored as you wake up from anesthesia. Dr. DeVictor will provide post-operative instructions to ensure a smooth recovery and optimal healing from your nose job in Scottsdale.
WHAT TO EXPECT FOLLOWING RHINOPLASTY
While a nose job can be an exciting process and a life changing procedure, the recovery time is a bit different then other facial plastic procedures. We will go through the stages of recovery that ranges from swelling and bruising in the first week to a fully realized result at one year post procedure when the full result is appreciated.
Surgery Day: Preparation for your surgery will begin the week before where you’ll discuss with Dr. DeVIctor the goals of surgery, what to expect, and go over the necessary medication which will be sent prior to surgery. Your surgery will be performed at a private surgical facility tailored to cosmetic patients. Your surgery day will begin with arriving at the surgical center in the morning for check-in. Upon completion of your nose surgery, you will have a small cast placed on the outside of your nose with ice packs in place to reduce swelling and bruising. Your job that day will be to go home to rest and relax with your head elevated and cold compresses on your eyes.
Week 1: The areas around your nose may or may not have some swelling or bruising. Most patients describe minimal to no pain, and control any soreness with Tylenol and ibuprofen. A few tablets of prescription strength will be sent for you in case they’re needed. We recommend rest during the first week with limited exercise, work, school, or social activity. At your 1 week follow up appointment with Dr. DeVictor, the stent over your nose will be removed and the small stitches between your nostrils removed. You will notice the nose feels swollen and nasal congestion is normal at this point. However, you may start to resume exercise, social activities, and work or school. By the next week the bruising will have resolved and the majority of the swelling you saw after your nose job in Scottsdale will be resolving.
1 Month: At this point, the nose is really starting to show its fine details and the improvements are noticeable. Swelling is dramatically reduced but the tip of the nose will still be the most swollen portion of the nose. We will often inject a steroid at this time to help reduce the swelling. You will notice fluctuations in the swelling from day to day depending on your activity level, diet, and hydration.
3 Months Later: At this point, you are 80% healed with a good looking nose that is functioning properly. You will notice continued fine changes but you will be fully appreciating your new look at this point.
1 Year Later: Your nose is fully healed by now, the last 20% of the healing is completed. The swelling has resolved and you have the rhinoplasty result that you have discussed over a year ago. The incision site is essentially unnoticeable by now.
Types of Rhinoplasty
- Functional Rhinoplasty
- Cleft Rhinoplasty
- Revision Rhinoplasty
- Ethnic Rhinoplasty
- Male Rhinoplasty
- Teen Rhinoplasty
Functional Rhinoplasty
Functional rhinoplasty in Scottsdale is a surgical procedure aimed at improving the functional aspects of the nose, particularly in cases where breathing difficulties or other functional issues are present. Functional rhinoplasty focuses on enhancing the nasal airway and restoring proper breathing. It may involve correcting a deviated septum, reducing nasal turbinates, or repairing other structural issues that hinder airflow. It can significantly improve a patient’s quality of life.
Cleft Rhinoplasty
Cleft rhinoplasty is a specialized procedure performed on individuals born with a cleft lip and/or cleft palate. These congenital conditions can result in not only facial deformities but also structural issues within the nose. Cleft rhinoplasty corrects these nasal deformities, including issues with the nasal tip, septum, and nostrils. This procedure helps individuals born with cleft lip and palate lead more fulfilling lives with improved facial harmony after this primary rhinoplasty in Scottsdale.
Revision Rhinoplasty
Revision rhinoplasty is a complex surgical procedure performed to correct or enhance the results of a previous rhinoplasty. It addresses issues such as residual asymmetry, scar tissue, or complications from the initial surgery. Revision rhinoplasty requires meticulous planning and precision, as the surgeon must work with altered nasal anatomy. Dr. DeVictor’s expertise in revision rhinoplasty ensures that patients achieve improved aesthetic and functional outcomes, restoring confidence and satisfaction with their nasal appearance.
Ethnic Rhinoplasty
Ethnic rhinoplasty is a specialized procedure tailored to enhance the nose while preserving the unique characteristics of the patient’s ethnic background. This type of rhinoplasty respects the natural features of the face and aims to achieve harmony without compromising the patient’s cultural identity. Dr. DeVictor is experienced in performing ethnic rhinoplasty and offers unique solutions that consider factors such as skin thickness, nasal structure, and desired outcomes to ensure a natural and balanced result.
Male Rhinoplasty
Male rhinoplasty focuses on reshaping the nose to achieve a more balanced and masculine appearance. The procedure is tailored to maintain or enhance the strong, angular features typically associated with a male facial profile. Male rhinoplasty can address issues such as nasal humps, wide nostrils, or a crooked nose while preserving the distinctiveness of the male face. Dr. DeVictor’s approach to male rhinoplasty in Scottsdale ensures that results are natural and aligned with the patient’s aesthetic goals.
Teen Rhinoplasty
Teen rhinoplasty is performed on younger patients, typically between the ages of 15 and 18, once facial growth is complete. This procedure addresses aesthetic concerns or functional issues, such as breathing difficulties, that can impact a teen’s self-esteem and overall well-being. Teen rhinoplasty requires careful consideration of the patient’s facial maturity and realistic expectations. Dr. DeVictor is skilled in guiding teens and their families through the rhinoplasty process, ensuring safe and satisfying results.
Open vs Closed Rhinoplasty
Closed Rhinoplasty
Closed rhinoplasty, or endonasal rhinoplasty, is a technique where all incisions and modifications are made internally, inside the nose. This approach leaves no visible external scars, as there are no incisions outside the nose. Closed rhinoplasty is suitable for patients requiring less extensive nasal reshaping. It often results in reduced swelling and a faster recovery compared to open rhinoplasty.
Open Rhinoplasty
Open rhinoplasty is a surgical technique used in nasal reshaping procedures where an external incision is made across the columella, the strip of tissue separating the nostrils. This technique gives the surgeon better visibility and access to the nasal structures, making it suitable for more complex cases or extensive nasal reshaping. Although it leaves a small external scar on the columella, open rhinoplasty allows for precise and comprehensive adjustments.

Primary Rhinoplasty FAQs
How is primary rhinoplasty different from revision rhinoplasty?
Primary rhinoplasty in Scottsdale is the first surgery performed on the nose, while revision rhinoplasty is performed to correct or revise the results of a previous rhinoplasty. Revision rhinoplasty is typically more complex due to the presence of scar tissue and altered nasal anatomy.
Is primary rhinoplasty performed under general anesthesia?
Yes, primary rhinoplasty is typically performed under general anesthesia. This ensures that you are completely asleep and comfortable during the procedure. In some cases, such as closed rhinoplasty, the procedure may be performed under local anesthesia with IV sedation.
Will there be visible scars after primary rhinoplasty?
In closed rhinoplasty, where incisions are made inside the nose, there are usually no visible external scars. However, in open rhinoplasty, a small incision is made on the columella (the strip of skin between the nostrils), which may result in a minor, well-concealed scar.
Are there age restrictions for primary rhinoplasty?
While there is no specific age limit, it’s generally recommended that individuals wait until their facial growth is complete, typically around age 15-16 for females and 17-18 for males.
How long is the recovery period after primary rhinoplasty?
The initial recovery period from a nose job in Scottsdale is about one to two weeks, during which you may experience swelling and bruising. However, complete healing and final results may take several months as residual swelling gradually subsides. You can resume most daily activities within a week or two, but strenuous workouts should be avoided for around six weeks.
Can primary rhinoplasty improve breathing problems?
Yes, primary rhinoplasty can improve breathing by addressing structural issues within the nose, such as a deviated septum or enlarged turbinates. This is referred to as functional rhinoplasty.
How much does primary rhinoplasty cost?
The cost of primary rhinoplasty can vary depending on the complexity of the procedure, whether you need open or closed rhinoplasty, the type of anesthesia used, and other factors. To obtain specific pricing information, please visit our pricing page or schedule a consultation.
Which procedures can be combined with rhinoplasty?
